Firmware

The MW 4IN1 ESC uses AM32. Configure the ESCs with the AM32 Configurator.

Firmware identification

ItemMW 4IN1 ESC
FirmwareAM32
Firmware identifierF051REF
BootloaderAM32, PB4 signal-input variant
Motor-control protocolsDShot300, DShot600, PWM
TelemetryBidirectional DShot; KISS serial telemetry

F051REF identifies the firmware variant. The installed AM32 release number is shown separately in the configurator. Record both before changing firmware or requesting support.

Connect and read the ESCs

AM32 supports configuration through Betaflight passthrough, using the flight controller as the connection between your computer and the ESCs.

  1. Remove the propellers and keep the vehicle disarmed.
  2. Connect the ESC to the flight controller using a verified harness, then connect the flight controller to your computer by USB.
  3. Close any other app using the flight controller's serial connection. Power the ESC from a suitable battery within its specified input range.
  4. Open the AM32 Configurator and connect through the flight controller's serial port. Read the ESCs and confirm that all four are detected.
  5. Record each ESC's firmware identifier, release number, and settings before making changes.

If an ESC is missing or reports an unexpected identifier, check the connection and contact MWE before flashing it.

Configuration

Select a motor-control protocol supported by both the flight controller and the ESC. Confirm motor order and direction with the propellers removed after changing settings.

Bidirectional DShot provides feedback over the motor signal connection. The AM32 setting for bidirectional forward/reverse motor operation is a separate feature; it does not enable bidirectional DShot telemetry.

See the AM32 settings reference for descriptions of motor direction, timing, PWM frequency, startup behavior, and telemetry settings.

Firmware updates

Before updating, save or record the settings for all four ESCs. Match the firmware image to the board and its reported identifier, and keep power and the programming connection stable throughout the update. Read all four ESCs again afterward to verify their versions and settings.

For a firmware image and release recommendation matched to your board revision, contact MWE with the information recorded above. The AM32 release page provides upstream release notes.

Bootloader and recovery

The PB4 bootloader communicates over the ESC microcontroller's PB4 signal input. PB4 names a microcontroller pin; it does not mean pin 4 of the flight-controller connector.

The bootloader and the main AM32 firmware are separate parts of the ESC software. For bootloader installation or recovery, request the board-specific image and programming connection details from MWE before erasing or replacing either part.
